Coping with the heat
Heat can cause illness such as heat exhaustion and heat
stroke, and can worsen the condition of someone who already
has a medical problem.
Stay healthy in the heat:
•Drink plenty of water. If you are on a fluid restriction, check
with your doctor how much to drink.
•Stay cool with wet towels, and cool showers.
•Try to spend time in air-conditioned buildings, e.g. shopping
centres, libraries etc.
•Stay out of the sun, and avoid strenuous activities.
•Never leave adults, children or animals in parked vehicles.
•Keep in touch with sick or frail friends, neighbours or
relatives.
•Check the forecast, and make sure you stock up on food and
medicines, so you don’t have to go out in the heat.
